A Forgotten Relic: Black and White 2

If you read my previous post on From Dust, you’ll know I get a bit excited about God games. It’s a shame that not as many are being created any more, Lionhead pretty much nailed this down with great classics like Dungeon Keeper and Populous under their belt. As mentioned previously, Populous: The Beginning is my favourite game, it’s so good if you can look past the outdated graphics, I plug it immensely.

But another Lionhead classic I have to talk about is something I’ve recently reinstalled from my dusty desk of old PC games that still hide in the dark with PC cases. Black and White 2.

Now this game is unique. I mean, seriously unique. Not only do you have a tiny creature that casually grows into a massive behemoth that you can teach spells, you can also lead a little town and build it from the ground up. There IS a similar aspect of the simple town building concept within it but it’s handled in a different way, similar to Banished. You assign people roles and they do them but you can’t control those villagers. We’ll talk about Banished in another post as that’s also worth a mention.

Enough about the tittle tattle of my ol’ 23 mug, here what I consider the best thing about Black and White 2. I wont swear this time. Honest.

1. YOU CAN TRAIN A GIANT ANIMAL TO HELP BUILD A HOUSE

Evil Giant Awesome Cow
A HIP THRUSTING EVIL GIANT COW, HOW CAN I BUY THIS AGAIN

2. YOU CAN TRAIN THE SAME ANIMAL TO SUMMON VOLCANO’S

3. YOU CAN ASSIGNS “BREEDERS”, MULTIPLY PEOPLE

4. YOUR MAIN ENEMY IS THE FRIGGIN’ AZTECS

5. DID I MENTION THAT YOU’RE A GOD?!

6. EVER WANTED TO SEE A GIANT ANIMAL KICK AROUND PEOPLE?! WELL, HERE YOU GO!

Just 6 points of so many things, I couldn’t continue without diving into the game itself and setting the Aztecs on fire over and over.
