Gaming: Dragons Dogma’s Dragon Fight Is The Best Boss I’ve Ever Fought *Spoiler Warning*

I’ve recently been playing through a fantastic game called Dragons Dogma and I’ve also recently completed it. It’s been a while since a game has made me go “Oh wow” and “this is brilliant!” so when I progressed through the game and arrived to face the big bad dragon, I had the looming sense of dread in my head where I honestly thought that this task to kill this dragon wasn’t in my means at all.

Grigori, the dragon
You’d feel nervous if this was looming over you.

Besides from having the best voice I’ve ever heard in a video game (David Lodge, you are beautiful) but the boss fight itself is one of the best things I’ve ever played in a video game. Down right honest. The thing with Dragons Dogma is you start off being especially weak and confused to the workings of how Dragons Dogma works. You progress very slowly, you find out there’s no fast travel system to start with (you have to set it up yourself) so there’s a lot of walking everywhere and getting ambushed by enemies that could easily put you in the grave. On top of that, there’s nigh to no checkpoint system so if you make a lot of progress and don’t save, you’ll have to do it all again.

As you go on with the game, you get better and better and you can feel your characters progress. You raise your levels, unlock more skills for your characters and you start to feel a badass. So you continue with the story and, eventually, you get to the dragon. It doesn’t matter how strong you are at this point, you look at the dragon and you just think to yourself, “I can’t do this”.

However, after running through this boss fight, the fear goes away and you have one of the most epic boss fights I’ve ever had a pleasure to take part in. All the effort and time you’ve put into this game has accumulated into this one direct moment.

And by God, it’s perfect.

I recommend buying the game cheaply, The Dark Arisen copy as it comes with all the DLC, and getting to this point by yourself. For the impatient who want to see it now, I’ll attach a video link below.
