QuickRead: Replace Happiness With Excitement

A happy yorshire terrier knows happiness and excitement
Leave the happiness to the Yorkshire Terriers. You’re not a Yorkshire Terrier. Or you are, I don’t know.

We all know that the common denominator for our life goals is to secure some form of happiness. This is what we know, this is what we’ve been taught to achieve. I disagree with it.

Happiness means something different to every living, breathing human life on this planet. So why have we been given just one method by society to reach it? Work 9 to 5, save your wealth and live comfortable in old age. Not to mention that in old age, you can barely do anything unless you’re fit as a fiddle. A rarity to our old aged members of society as every basic thing we do with ease starts to become harder in execution.

So I propose a basic turnaround for all of you of all ages, right now.

Replace the pursuit of happiness with excitement.

A snowboarder leading an excited life.
I get excited by the prospect of snowboarding. Not the falling over on my face part, mind you.

Not everything exciting is exciting to someone else. It’s within that I believe an individual can get the most out of life by seeking what they find the most exciting. By pursuing what you find the most excitement in, aren’t you ideally going down your own individual path to a more fulfilling life?

I get excited by talking to big-wig companies about mundane stuff. Then again, the idea of bungee jumping is scary to me but I usually confuse the concepts of what’s scary and what’s exciting. Something to think about!

You don’t need to be confident, although it does help, you can even have severe anxiety, in fact, pursuing what excites you is the best way to calm your anxiety! It’s simple stuff!

5 Tips For Conquering Your Anxiety

Anxiety
Anxiety means business.

Anxiety plays a big part in the lives of anyone that has it. It stops you from being the 100% of the person you are, makes situations that seem normal to other without the affliction 10x as hard. It’s a foe that I believe all of us have some level of. I have it. I had before I even knew I had it. I believe this was the perspective that was needed to overcome it myself. I saw it as low confidence so I did my research and found ways to boost myself so it no longer became a problem. Sure, it’s still there with me to this day but without it, I wouldn’t be the guy I am. Simple.

I’ll present a number of tips that have helped me and will help you. But only if you try to execute them. Actions overcome words, my friend.

1. Acknowledge that it’s a part of who you are.

This can be simple and hard at the same time. If you have anxiety, give it your attention and embrace it. Only then can you move on from it and become a bigger and better person. By not fighting anxiety from a wide perspective, you can start doing this..

2. Use it as a tool.

Anxiety exists as a double-edged sword. If you get anxious about something then there must be a reason. A sense of danger, perhaps? No. Not at all, it’s your mind telling you, “Be safe! Stay alive! I’ll help deter you!”. It’s thinking it’s helping. So you’ve got to take this mind created power and turn it into motivation. That’s right, motivation. By doing this, you’re..

3. Turning your anxiety into a weapon.

Used with the correct mindset, using anxiety is a good way to identify what is worth doing. The fact that something creates so much fear MEANS it ends up being worth it if you execute it.

4. Believe that you are normal. Because you are.

You’re not a social outcast, you’re not weird. Anxiety is a natural defence mechanism the brain has invented to keep. you. alive. That’s not something to be ashamed about, back when technology wasn’t available and we had to survive, you were the person people looked for when they needed a situation weighing up.

5. In doubt, learn to meditate.

Meditation is the aim of acquiring a blank, mental state. Sounds perfect doesn’t it! All you do is focus on a noise or focus entirely on your breathing, counting from 1 to 10 and back again, it’s all about trying to get rid of threatening thoughts and to just FOCUS. It sounds ineffective but I can speak wonders of it. Just ten minutes every morning, sit on a pillow, straight back and try it. Set a timer. It’s pretty good.
